What is the standard of dress for meetings and ministry?
On this hot tropical island, it’s possible that the norms for dress may differ from what you are accustomed to.
- Sun hats for both brothers and sisters are common, in order to avoid heat stroke while participating in outdoor/door-door ministry
- Some sisters wear pants/trousers, as this is a safer option when using motorbikes/scooters
- Suit jackets are optional (even when on the platform)
- In the ministry, brothers typically wear pants/trousers with a button-up shirt and close-toed shoes
Can someone pick me up for the meeting?
This may be possible, but should not be relied on for your visit here. Your hotel or a simple internet search can provide numerous taxi and private driver options. Also see the pages MEETINGS and GETTING AROUND.
Can I join the Thai ministry?
Many of the Thai friends do not speak English, and the foreigners in the Thai congregation need to focus on speaking Thai, which presents a challenge for them to accommodate many tourists who are not also learning Thai. If you would like to join the Thai ministry, we recommend you attend a Thai meeting and make personal arrangements with one of the friends in that congregation. Learning a few key Thai phrases from our JW language app will be helpful. You are also welcome to take a supply of Thai literature from the hall for informal ministry wherever you go.
How can I arrange follow up of a contact I made here?
When you leave Samui, please share the details for follow-up with any of the elders, or with another publisher who may have already met the contact with you

Can I help with talk assignments while I am there?
Since we are a small congregation, at times we could use help at midweek meetings. If you are coming to Thailand for several weeks or more and would like to participate, please send us an email so we can put you in touch with our CLM overseer. EMAIL [email protected]
Can you recommend accommodation?
No, sorry, we cannot. The island has accommodation to fit every budget and every criterion (size, pool, beach, view, amenities, etc…), which only you or your travel agent will know. If one of your criterion is to stay close to the Kingdom Hall, we recommend that you find the Hall location on Google Maps and click the icon “Hotels” to see what is nearby, then find one to match your needs, based on the reviews and availability. As a guide, most of the brothers in the English congregation live in the districts of Maenam or Bophut. Chaweng Beach is the area with a high concentration of nightclubs and bars, and can be very rowdy at night.
Can you recommend a tour guide?
No, sorry, we cannot. Your hotel or internet search will have more up to date information than those who live here.
